“Development and Opportunities in Art Market under the Belt & Road” Seminar

2022-05-20

By 2020, Hong Kong, after New York, has overtaken London to become the second largest modern art auction market in the world. Many investors are attracted to start their activities in the city. Against this background, MSRS held the “Development and Opportunities in Art Market under the Belt & Road” Seminar on 20 May. Ms Yan Zhong, an experienced curator and art consultant, was invited as the speaker.

In her talk, Ms Zhong introduced the meaning of art and the vision and knowledge required for investing in art. She also gave examples of well-known artists, including renowned Chinese artist Zeng Fanzhi, Chinese Canadian artist Matthew Wang, who suffers from autism and depression, as well as Yoshitomo Nara, Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami, to illustrate how their artworks have achieved high auction values. She explained that the artists' personal experiences and stories, as well as the context of the time, were also key factors in the value of the artworks. Finally, she answered questions from participants and offered advice for those interested in collecting artworks.
