Luncheon Talk on "Archaeological Exploration of Arctic and Antarctic Ice Diving"

The Maritime Silk Road Society organized a luncheon talk on "Archaeological Exploration of Arctic and Antarctic Ice Diving" at Harbour Fun Restaurant in Wan Chai on 16 December. Mr Jack Wu, Chairman of the Hong Kong Underwater Archaeological Association, shared with the participants what he saw and learned from his underwater archaeological research in the Arctic and Antarctic.
Mr Wu gave a detailed account of his ice diving experience in the Arctic and Antarctic. He introduced the preparations he and his team made before the trip, the process of the local expedition, the preparation and practice for the official ice dive, and revealed the difficulties and hardships they faced. Mr Wu's presentation was accompanied by a wealth of photographs introducing the history of their expedition site, the ice diving process, and the precious underwater creatures they found under the ice.
Mr Wu also spoke about the problems of global warming and the overfishing of ice shrimp and whales that he discovered during his ice dive. These problems are not only affecting the marine ecosystems of the Polar Regions but will also have a long-term impact on the human environment around the world.
