“BRI & Chengdu” Technological and Cultural Exploration

The Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) organized the “BRI & Chengdu” Technological and Cultural Exploration on 23 to 27 December, taking a group of secondary and university students to Chengdu to visit its technological infrastructure, historical and cultural attractions, enabling them to have a deeper understanding of China’s latest circumstances, history, technological and social development.

Sponsored by the Funding Scheme for Youth Exchange in the Mainland of the Youth Development Commission, the five-day itinerary included visits to Kuanzhai Alley, Du Fu Thatched Cottage, Sichuan Science and Technology Museum, Chengdu Robot Innovation Center, Jianchuan Museum Cluster, Relic Site of Wenchuan, Dujiangyan Scenic Area, Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center, Sanxingdui Museum and People’s Park. The students also enjoyed the Sichuan opera performance and hotpot. The itinerary was enriched by the introduction and explanation by docents as many students expressed that they have benefited a lot from the tour.

On 26 December, MSRS invited Prof Sun Hua from the School of Archaeology and Museology of Peking University and Sanxingdui Research Center to introduce the Sanxingdui discoveries, its origin and cultural development. Prof Sun pointed out that the abundant relics unearthed reflected the rich civilization and religious culture of the community in the past. The presentation and the subsequent guided tour helped students to gain a better understanding of the Sanxingdui and its mysteries.
