Talk on “Professor H K Chang's Passionate Silk Road Journeys”

The talk on “Professor H K Chang's Passionate Silk Road Journeys”, co-organized by the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS), Long Caring and Runnovation, was held on 22 February at Runnovation in Wan Chai. Prof H K Chang, Emeritus President and Professor of City University of Hong Kong, Honorary Professor at Peking University and Tsinghua University, was the speaker.
In her welcoming remarks, Mrs Regina Ip, Co-Chair of MSRS, highlighted that this talk was a flagship event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of MSRS. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Prof Chang for sharing his passion for the Silk Road in the presentation. During the opening ceremony, Mrs Ip presented Certificates of Appreciation to Prof Chang; Ms Pinky Lung, Deputy General Manager of Runnovation; and Ms Stella Kwok, Deputy Director of Administration of Long Caring. Prof Lo Kai-yin, MSRS Honorary Advisor, and Dr C K Wong, IT Advisor, were invited to take a group photo with the guests on the stage.
Themed “The Silk Road – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow”, Prof Chang started his presentation with the origin of the Silk Road and the routes of Zhang Qian’s Missions to the Western Region, the pilgrimage of Xuanzang and Ibn Battuta’s Islamic exploration. He then introduced the various ethnic groups, religions and languages of the traditional Silk Road before sharing stories of his Silk Road journeys: the “Steppe Route”, “Traditional Silk Road”, “Southern Silk Road” and “Maritime Silk Road”. He concluded his speech by reviewing the development of land and Maritime Silk Roads as well as Eurasian civilization since the ancient years which he epitomized as “the concerto of the Belt and Road” and prospecting “the concerto of the maritime symphony orchestra and choir on land” in the future.
The event drew a full-house of over 100 participants including scholars, journalists, publishers, teachers and students who expressed tremendous interests in sharing with Prof Chang his experience, passion and insights of his Silk Road journeys.
