MSRS Organized Study Mission on the South-to-North Water Diversion Project – Wuhan and Shiyan City

To deepen the public's understanding of the nation's major water conservancy projects and infrastructures, Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) organized the “Study Mission on the South-to-North Water Diversion Project – Wuhan and Shiyan City” from 18 to 21 April.
Under the auspice of the Chair of MSRS Infrastructure Committee, Mr Chen Jingwei, the 15-member delegation was led by Vice-chair of MSRS Infrastructure Committee and LegCo Member Ms Judy Chan and Vice-chair of MSRS Youth Opportunities Dr Charles Ng. Other delegates included Mr Joseph Chan, member of the Hubei Provincial Political Consultative Conference in Hong Kong and MSRS Honorary Advisor; Mr Alex Wong, CEO of MSRS; as well as district council member, young entrepreneurs and professionals.
Upon arrival in Wuhan, the delegation visited Wuhan Garden Expo Park with an inspiring presentation conducted by Mr Shao Jingbang, Chief Engineer of multiple aerobic ecological remediation projects (including Wuhan Garden Expo Park). The delegation then proceeded to Wuhan Natural History Museum for a guided tour.
In the evening, Ms Zhang Xiaomei, Director-General of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Hubei Provincial People's Government, hosted a working dinner for the delegation.
On the second day, the delegates toured the Danjiangkou Dam of the South-to-North Diversion Project. Being the largest artificial freshwater lake in Asia, the water reservoir is an important national wetland protection area and ecological civilization demonstration area. The group then visited the production facility of the famous Mainland enterprise “Nongfu Spring” before heading to Mount Wudang in the evening to enjoy the immersive multimedia show Wudang Dream.
As home to a famous complex of Taoist temples and monasteries, the Mount Wudang is hailed as the cradle of Taoism in China. After attending a Tai Chi class conducted by Master Jake at Zixiao Palace in the morning on the third day, the delegation climbed up to the Golden Summit. Upon return to Wuhan in the evening, the delegation attended a seminar hosted by the Federation of Hong Kong Hubei Associations and several professional associations. Presented by Professor Sophia Chan, former Secretary for Food and Health of HKSAR, the seminar focused on the reform of Hong Kong's healthcare system.
On the final day, group members took a ride on Wuhan's driverless taxi “Turnip Express” before visiting the Bridge Museum to experience the advanced technology of Chinese bridges. Ms Cheng Liling, Chief of the Museum provided a guided tour for the visitors. During lunch, the delegates met with Mr Jiang Hao, Deputy Director of the Hubei Provincial United Front Work Department, and Mr Yi Jun, Director of the Department to promote exchange and understanding.
The Maritime Silk Road Society is grateful to the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Hubei Provincial People's Government, the Hubei Provincial United Front Work Department and the Federation of Hong Kong Hubei Associations for their hospitality and meticulous arrangements. Their assistance and warm reception helped make the trip successful and enhanced participants’ understanding of the development and achievements of the nation’s infrastructure.
