MT Programme

The Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) introduced the “Operation Zhang Qian — Undergraduate Summer Internship Programme” in 2016 to provide opportunities for local full-time undergraduates to work in the Belt and Road region. Every year, dozens of students have successfully completed their internship.

Riding on the solid foundations of “Operation Zhang Qian”, MSRS will launch a brand new project called “New Youth Management Trainee Programme” (“MT Programme”) in 2020. This new programme will provide further opportunities to Hong Kong’s youth to study, live, and work in Belt and Road countries as well as mainland China.

Objectives

To encourage Hong Kong young people to seize the developmental opportunities of “the Belt and Road Initiative” by taking up overseas working positions; to learn, live, and work in Belt and Road countries as well as mainland China; to grasp the chance of undergoing a year of full-time work with the prospect of becoming a regular employee afterwards.

Content

The sponsoring corporation or organization will pay salary to the trainee. MSRS and the sponsoring corporation or organization will cover accommodation, basic living costs, return airfare or transportation cost between Hong Kong and the training location, medical insurance and check-up cost, as well as visa fees (if applicable). Trainees are required to submit a training report upon conclusion of the training period.

The MT Programme will initially provide several trainee positions for Hong Kong permanent residents aged from 18 to 35 who were graduates from university. The trainees will work full-time at the sponsoring corporation or organization in the Belt and Road countries or mainland China for a year.

Organizational Structure

MSRS has set up a “New Youth Management Trainee Programme Steering Committee” under its “Youth Opportunities Committee” to direct and monitor the implementation and development of the MT Programme. At the invitation of MSRS Co-Chair Mrs Regina Ip, Ms Fu Wenjing became the Chair of the “New Youth Management Trainee Programme Steering Committee” with support from the MSRS Secretariat.
