Uncovering the Threats: The Impact of Cybersecurity on the Belt and Road Economy in Maritime 4.0 Seminar

Co-organized by the Maritime Silk Road Society and Fortinet, the “Uncovering the Threats: The Impact of Cybersecurity on the Belt and Road Economy in Maritime 4.0” seminar took place on 12 September. Mr Daniel Kwong, Field Chief Information Security Officer, SE Asia & HK, Fortinet, was the guest speaker.

Mr Kwong started his presentation by stressing the importance of the maritime economy. In 2022, over 80% of the volume of international trade in goods was carried by sea. Also, the maritime industry has suffered from a tremendous loss due to maritime cyberattacks such as ransomware. He then explained the approaches to maritime cybersecurity, the unified requirements (UR E26 and UR E27) introduced by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS); and the value of cybersecurity in Maritime 4.0 from the perspectives of data, connection, sustainability, operation and safety. Mr Kwong continued to introduce the business of Fortinet with some successful cases.

At last, participants had proactively raised interesting questions related to the industry with the speaker.
