MSRS Participated in GBA Cultural Exchange Programme on Archaeology

To promote exchange on archaeology and to explore opportunities for joint projects targeting young people, the Hong Kong Public Archaeological Society (HKPAS) invited Ms Wendy Tsang, Executive Director of Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS), to participate in the GBA Cultural Exchange Programme on Archaeology on 20 December.
In the morning, Dr Peter Wong of the Hong Kong Public Archaeological Society led the delegation to visit the Center for Cultural Heritage Protection of Shenzhen. Dr Ji Duxue, Deputy Director of the Center greeted the delegates and introduced the conservation work undertaken by the experts of the Center. The participants then proceeded to Dapeng Fortress which is enlisted in the national important cultural relic protection units as well as one of the patriotic education bases.
In the afternoon in the Dapeng Fortress Museum, Mr Huang Wende, Deputy Director and Deputy Researcher gave a briefing on the ancient city. He also presented souvenirs to the representatives of HKPAS and MSRS.
The last stop was Xiantouling Relic Site, where remains and artefacts of Neolithic and Shang Dynasty were unearthed in five excavations. The site was estimated to be in existence 6,000 – 7,000 years ago.
