Mrs Regina Ip Attended 2023-24 Eastern District Opera Festival

On 22 January, in capacity of Convenor of the Executive Council, LegCo Member and Co-Chair of Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS), Mrs Regina Ip officiated at the opening of the 2023-24 Eastern District Cultural Festival’s Opera Festival featuring Qiong (Hainan) Operas. The Qiong Opera programme, featuring a number of popular excerpts held in Sunbeam Theatre, was organized by the Hong Kong Wenchang Community Organisations Limited and co-organized and sponsored by the Eastern District Office of the Home Affairs Department.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mrs Ip said that Qiong Opera is a traditional folk opera in Hainan Province with a history of more than 300 years. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008 and is regarded as a treasure of Chinese culture.
Mrs Ip congratulated the organizers for the success of the programme, in particular Wenchang Community Organisations, in inviting a famous operatic troupe from Hainan to perform in the festival. Lastly, she recognized organizers’ contributions to culture and art and for accumulating remarkable results for the long-term development of Chinese opera.
