Mrs Regina Ip Met with Guangxi Delegation at LegCo

Ms Yang Jìnghua, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region led a delegation to Hong Kong in September to take part in the 9th Edition of Belt and Road Summit. Ms Yang and the delegates took the opportunity to meet with Mrs Regina Ip, Convenor of the Executive Council, LegCo Member and Co-Chair of the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) on 12 September at the LegCo Building to explore the feasibility of collaboration in different sectors.
In light of Guangxi’s unique geographical advantages, the Central Government has designated Guangxi internally to develop into the important strategic hinterland of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and building upon the China-ASEAN Industrial Cooperation Zone, to promote Guangxi externally as an important support for “Belt and Road” cooperation for ASEAN countries.
Mrs Ip pointed out that this meeting reflected the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and strengthened the foundation of Guangxi-Hong Kong cooperation. The plenary session clearly reiterated the guiding ideology for further comprehensively deepening the reform. It also gave Hong Kong the task to leverage its unique advantages and consolidate its position of being an international shipping centre, financial centre, and trade centre as well as a talent base. This position will promote the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and provide other GBA cities with higher-end and more valuable services in the fields of finance, law, professional services, education, and technology.
Both parties discussed cooperation under the "Belt and Road" Initiative, practical measures to construct the important strategic hinterland for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA, and exchanges in the fields of legislation, economy and trade, culture and tourism, and youth development between the two places.
Mrs Ip also thanked the Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office of Guangxi for its support to the Maritime Silk Road Society by providing placement for the summer internship programme each year. She hoped that through the meeting, the two places would further deepen cooperation and create more opportunities for collaboration.
Mr Roland Wong, member of Guangxi CPPCC and Vice-chair of MSRS Youth Opportunities Committee also attended the meeting.
