Mrs Regina Ip Led A Delegation to Guangxi on A Study Tour to The Strategic Hinterland of The Greater Bay Area

Mrs Regina Ip, Convenor of the Executive Council, LegCo Member and Co-Chair of the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) today (29 July) led a group of young entrepreneurs and professionals on a 5-day tour of Guangxi Business Delegation to study the strategic hinterland of the Greater Bay Area (GBA)”.

Mrs Regina Ip was the leader of the 22-member delegation, with Mr Roland Wong, a member of Guangxi CPPCC and Vice-chair of MSRS Youth Opportunities Committee, as the deputy leader. Members of the delegation included LegCo Member Ms Eunice Yung, Sha Tin District Council Member Dr Michael Liu, Member of Guangxi CPPCC Ms Crystal Wu, Member of Nanning Municipal Committee of CPPCC Mr Arthur Chu, Director of Guangxi Liaison Unit of the Government of the HKSAR Mr Kevin Wong, as well as experts in innovation and technology, manufacturing industry, transport and logistics, asset finance and culture, tourism and education.

Mrs Regina Ip expressed her gratitude to Mr Liu Ning, CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee Secretary, and the municipalities of Nanning, Liuzhou and Guilin, as well as the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for the meticulous arrangements. She hoped that the exchange would enhance the delegation's understanding of the investment environment in Guangxi and strengthen co-operation between the two regions.

Mrs Ip said, “In May this year, Secretary Liu led a delegation to Hong Kong to attend a series of trade and economic activities with a view to capitalizing on Hong Kong's advantages as a global city of the GBA and further promoting co-operation with the GBA cities in order to achieve a win-win situation. In addition, Guangxi is the country's bridgehead for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which has been Hong Kong's second largest trading partner, and plays a pivotal role under the framework of the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative.”

Mrs Ip went on, “In May 2017, I led a business delegation to Guangxi to visit industrial parks in Nanning, Fangchenggang and Qinzhou in order to gain insight into the local investment environment. In August 2019, MSRS organized the ‘Belt and Road Guangxi Cultural Tour’ for Hong Kong students to acquire knowledge on Guangxi’s historical places, cultural constructions and renown enterprises.”

Mrs Ip took the opportunity to thank the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for the support in providing internship places since 2017 to Hong Kong undergrads to learn about different areas of work and to enhance their understanding of Guangxi and ASEAN.

Mr Roland Wong said, “I am very pleased to join Mrs Regina Ip and young entrepreneurs and professionals again for a trip to Guangxi, and I hope that this tour can promote emerging industries, deepen the co-operation between Guangxi and Hong Kong, and tie-in with the development of the ‘Belt and Road’ southbound corridor.”

The rich programme would include meetings with the regional and municipal leaders in addition to visits to Guangxi Communications Investment Group, China Resources Group and the Panlong Community in Nanning; visits to the Liuzhou luosifen industrial park and SAIC-GM-Wuling (Liudong Baojun) production base in Liuzhou; and a tour of the Longsheng Longji scenic park, a boat trip to the Li River and the Yulong River, viewing the Impression of Liu Sanjie performance, and a visit to Guilin Esquel Textiles Co. Ltd. In Guilin.
