Internship at Slavia Football Club

"I am a die-hard fan of Slavia. Please give me two more booklets!" exclaimed the fan as he pointed at the Slavia emblem on his jersey. Though I did not speak the Czech language, I could effortlessly infer from his enthusiastic body language.
This summer, I had the privilege to work at SK Slavia, one of the football clubs with the longest history in Czech Republic. I was responsible for compiling the catalogue of the arena, helping organize football matches and carrying the players’ uniforms. On a typical working day, once I arrived at the arena in the morning, my colleagues and I would first divide works among ourselves. Besides taking photos in the arena, I occasionally purchased various souvenirs.
As the new season kicked off in August, there was on average one game per week. One day prior to the match, my colleagues and I had to ensure that the equipment is complete and set up the VIP room; during the game, I would distribute booklets to the fans; after the game, we had to tidy up the venue and count materials we had left.
In early August, Slavia played an away game in Belarus, a country on “the Silk Road Economic Belt". The game was part of the third qualification round of 2017 – 18 UEFA Champions League. I was very honoured to have accompanied the team on their trip. Not only did I get to enjoy the exceptional performances of the players on the field, I was equally impressed and touched by the 50 loyal fans who took leaves to support their team. They are certainly dedicated their lives to football.
This internship was very eye-opening: firstly, in terms of experience, I assisted with preparing for large-scale sport events, which is closely related to my profession, cultural management. I look forward to applying my experience in the future when I join the field and organize exhibitions. Secondly, In terms of knowledge, I studied the regulations of UEFA Champions League, allowing me to see a football match from the organizer’s point of view. I now have a full picture of a football game. Finally, I have been deeply inspired by the devoted Slavia fans and am convinced that sports connect people from all cultures.
