The internship is a treasurable and meaningful experience for me. This is the first time I had to leave my family and go to a foreign country for so long. I had to learn how to live independently. In Thailand, I have met many talented people and they gave me an opportunity to reflect on myself. I saw my strengths and potential as a Hong Kong student under globalisation. But more importantly, I recognized the qualities that I am still lacking. I will keep working hard to improve.
To be honest, the internship work was very tiring, but I’ve never regretted my decision to come to Thailand. I’ve been through a lot of ups and downs in these two months, such as conflicts with my colleague. But, I’ve learnt to resolve problems on my own. Before going to Thailand, I was unsure whether this would be a good decision. My friends and family were worried about the pandemic. But my strength is whenever I see an opportunity, I will grasp it and not let it go. If I didn’t try, I’d never know the result. The privilege as a student is being able to try different things. It is fine to make a mistake or two during the process of learning.
Although it seems like I had a tough time during my internship, life is very fruitful and happy. The personalities of Thai people, in general, are very open-minded and optimistic. I have had a great laugh every day. My words to the people who want to apply for this programme are: it wouldn’t be easy to leave everything behind and go overseas for months. You might feel frustrated and lonely. But you would never regret this journey and it’d be something that you would be grateful for even many years later.
