I am delighted to work as an intern at China Merchants Port Holdings Co Ltd at the Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT). It gave me a chance to learn about one of South Asia's top container facilities. The state-of-the-art facilities and the terminal's dedication to innovation in port management provided an ideal environment for me to learn and contribute actively.
My responsibilities encompassed a diverse array of tasks that provided insights into various facets of port operations. These included actively participating in cargo handling and stowage planning, shadowing experienced professionals across departments, gaining insights into terminal operations management, and acquainting myself with cutting-edge technology integration for operational efficiency.
The experience I gained went beyond the tasks themselves. It significantly contributed to my personal and professional development. I honed my operational acumen, strengthened my communication skills through regular interactions with colleagues and supervisors, enhanced my problem-solving abilities by addressing real-time challenges, and recognized the critical importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving organizational excellence.
This internship holds profound significance for my growth and development. Not only did it provide me with a practical application of theoretical knowledge, but it also bestowed me with a global perspective, emphasizing adaptability and enhancing my understanding of the broader logistics and supply chain management domain.
In conclusion, my internship at Colombo International Container Terminals through the Globe Intern program of China Merchants Port has been a transformative journey. I am deeply grateful to both organizations for this excellent learning and growth opportunity. The experience has broadened my knowledge and given me the skills and insights to confidently face future maritime industry difficulties.
