As a first-time female solo traveller, I can still clearly remember the butterflies in my stomach when stepping out of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Despite sufficient pre-departure preparation and research about the country, the uncertainties and challenges I was going to encounter still got my nerves. What was lying ahead? Walking past the crowds at the arrival gate, a quote came to my mind,
“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.”
As a Leo girl who loves to venture, explore and face challenges deep down inside, I kept the quote in mind. I told myself to stay open-minded and enjoy every moment. During the six weeks in Ho Chi Minh City, I did try to reach my objectives every day. I explored as much as I could, whether in the workplace or in the country, in order to tap my potential, to enrich my knowledge about in the areas of aviation, business management and Vietnamese cultures, and to strengthen my communication and collaboration skills. In pursuit of my personal goals, I have encountered many fascinating and new experiences that I would never forget in my life: plucking up the courage to cross roads that are always full of motorcycles and cars, getting on motorcycles in the rain and sharing a raincoat romantically with the driver, sitting on the little plastic chair in the street in Saigon to taste local food, working as a management trainee in the aviation industry, participating in professional business meetings and sharing opinions with different people, getting into the ramp area at the airport and climbing into the giant freighter B747 at 2:30am for cargo support…
